Family Friendly Activities at Star Wars Celebration Europe

Think Star Wars Celebration Europe is just for grownups? Not at all! Star Wars Celebrations offer fun for every member of the family.

Younglings and their families will want to stop by the Family Room, where there are kid-friendly activities going on during all hours of the show. Our friends from the Rebel Legion Germany have worked with us to put together lots of fun craft classes and activities. Some of the classes we will be offering include Chewbacca and Yoda finger puppets, Naboo paper jewel boxes, paper Holocrons, and felt Tooka dolls. For kids who don’t want to sit still, we have workshops in dancing like a Twi’lek, and extra large games like Connect Four.

In addition to classes, we have plenty of ongoing drop-in anytime activities. There are coloring sheets and puzzle pages to fill in, games to play, and Star Wars books to read. Face painting will be offered for several hours each day, so kids can get made up as their favorite character. LEGO is providing building stations in the Family Room where kids can get creative with their favorite colorful blocks.  And Rovio will be bringing artists to do caricatures of Star Wars Angry Birds characters.

Aspiring artists can learn from some of the best at our drawing classes. Artist Iain McCaig created the designs for Darth Maul and Queen Amidala, and now he’s going to share his drawing tips with kids in the Family Room. We also have some of the artists from the Celebration Art Show joining us for classes. JAKe will be teaching kids how to draw (and maybe speak like) Wookiees, and Matt Busch will show how to draw Yoda. Spencer Brinkerhoff III believes that “Drawing is Simple” and he’s going to show us how he does it. Ken Lashley and Joe Corroney are both comic book artists, so they’ll be sure to show off their illustration skills. And finally, Lin Zy will step away from the drawing table and teach a class in making paper bag puppets.

The family-friendly activities aren’t limited to the Family Room, though. There’s plenty for kids to do throughout the show. Stop by the Club Penguin booth on the main show floor where kids can join the Star Wars Takeover. Padawans can learn the ways of the Jedi at our Jedi Training area, and they may even get to fight a Sith Lord! Hasbro will be offering exclusive merchandise and toys to add to your collection. LEGO will have a whimsical pavilion on the show floor, as well as adult building areas and an amazing LEGO organ that plays Star Wars music with LEGO figures.

Life size props are a fan favorite at every Celebration, and this time we’ll have pieces from Belgium, Germany, and the UK. Kids will feel like they’re right in a Star Wars movie when they pose for pictures in these fantastic sets, all built by fans.

There’s something for Star Wars fans of all ages at Celebration Europe. Hope to see you there!
