Introducing… Jonathan Rinzler

J.W. Rinzler | July 23, 2012

Editor’s Note: Even though it has been 35 years since Star Wars was released in theaters, and almost 30 since Return of the Jedi, we remain fascinated with untold stories and unseen assets that take us inside the production of the movies. Few people are more devoted to unearthing and telling these stories than Lucasfilm’s J. W. Rinzler. With an unprecedented level of access to the Lucasfilm archives, and to the cast and crew who helped create Star Wars, Rinzler has authored definitive accounts about The Making of Star Wars and The Making of Empire Strikes Back, and is now hard at work on The Making of Return of the Jedi. And, with all of his spare time, Rinzler has agreed to join us a regular contributor to the blog. Read on as he introduces himself and shares more about what you can expect in his future posts!

StarWars.com Team | July 20, 2012

If you’re a European Star Wars fan, this strikingly realistic statue of Darth Maul might look familiar – 15 of these bad boys were produced by Hasbro along with Lucasfilm and Studio Oxmox last fall to help promote the 3D release of Episode I earlier this year.

For those who have never heard of the Holocron Star Wars continuity database, it is a database I was hired to create back in January 2000 for Lucas Licensing’s Publishing department.

Introducing… Leland Chee

Leland Chee | July 19, 2012

Editor’s Note: One of the biggest strengths of the Star Wars expanded universe – and something that sets it apart from similar franchises – is the fact that in its 30+ years of existence there’s never been a need for a reboot. Continuity has never become so out-of-whack that writers have been forced throw in the towel and start over and that’s largely due to the efforts of our newest contributor, Leland Chee – the Jocasta Nu of the real Jedi Archives. Leland is an easy contender for the “coolest job ever” award, in fact, his job is so cool that Wired Magazine did a full profile on him back in 2008. Read on for Leland’s story and check back for regular updates from the Keeper of the Holocron!

San Diego Comic-Con is officially a wrap for 2012!

Dave Filoni | July 18, 2012

That was fast! I usually spend several days at the con, but this year it was a 24-hour turn around. Still, I got a good look at the floor and was fortunate to meet several fans. I caught a couple of our regular clone troopers walking around in Star Trek uniforms on Saturday – even a member of my own crew!! Luckily they switched back into their imperial officer uniforms for the 501st photo.

Project Runway: Star Wars Style at the SDCC Masquerade

Matt Martin | July 17, 2012

Hi all. I’m Matt and I’m a part of the StarWars.com team here at Lucasfilm. This past Saturday I had the honor and privilege to act as Lucasfilm’s official judge for the “Best Costume(s) from the Star Wars Galaxy” award at San Diego Comic-Con’s annual Masquerade – presented by HBO (I remember this because the whole shebang started with a long True Blood commercial).

Are You A Geek Girl Trendsetter? Her Universe SDCC Panel

Ashley Eckstein | July 17, 2012

Whew! San Diego Comic Con is over and it was SO much fun! It was great to see all of my old friends and meet some new ones! One of the highlights of my Con experience was the third annual Her Universe panel. I was inspired by the NBC show Fashion Star, where up and coming fashion designers have the opportunity to show their designs to the experts and retail buyers.

Plastic Space Men Need Love Too

Albin Johnson | July 17, 2012

dcon2001_210

Greetings, nerf-herders. I thought I’d start with a little intro to the 501st Legion club I started back in 1997. You may ask, ‘what is the 501st’? The formal answer is a worldwide costuming club that dresses in the costumes of the Galactic Empire and associated ‘bad guy’ characters. We’re part of a large fan community that includes the Rebel Legion (name says it all), the Jedi Assembly (again, the name tells you what they dress up as), the R2 Builders, Galactic Academy (costuming kids), Mando Mercs, and many others. But as someone who’s watched the Legion grow from two guys to a zillion worldwide, let me tell you the Legion isn’t so much a club as it is an experience.
