When I first came across this epic piece of fan art of Chewbacca riding a giant squirrel into battle against the Nazis all I could think was “This is Wookiee-tastic!”
What is your art background?
I attended a 2 year certificate program at the Art Institute of Boston At Lesley University. I also have experience in photography and hold a Bachelors degree in design.
What is the story behind that awesome piece of art depicting Chewbacca riding a giant squirrel into battle against Nazi soldiers?
I asked my friend Gary what he would like a for a wedding present. At first he said Chewbacca riding a giant squirrel into battle against an unseen force living in the shadows.
He added, “give him long flowing fur and his mount should look adorable. He should be riding to expected death on a last charge.”
Eventually he settled on him battling Nazis. So there is the finished a product a wedding commission.
Who do you think the Nazis are more afraid of — Chewie or the giant squirrel?
Well the one Chewie’s mowing down seems to be [afraid of him]. I think if the Nazis had flame throwers it would be a different story.
What has the reaction been about the art?
Very positive and funny. Some says it’s the most perfectly absurd piece of art they have ever seen. Some have said their heads have exploded from its epicness. Others just put in a loud Chewie roar, “AAARRRRRRRRRRRwg!”
What’s your favorite part of this piece?
The randomness. Or how the squirrel seems so happy in contrast to Chewie’s expression.
Are you a big Star Wars fan yourself?
Absolutely when I was younger I could watch Ep. 5 and 6 over and over again.
Why do you think fans love to re-imagine Star Wars in their own art?
Star Wars inspires every facet of society. It’s a lush, rich universe we all like take a part of for ourselves.
If George Lucas saw this piece of art, what would you say to him?
Thanks. Is your art department hiring by any chance?
