Comic-Con 2009: Best Star Wars Costumes Team | August 3, 2009

You can’t walk through San Diego Comic-Con without running into a stormtrooper, Jedi or bounty hunter. As usual, the 501st Legion and Rebel Legion were out in full force, as were the lovely Slave Leias, and some rather unusual and new Star Wars characters.

Here’s a recap of some of the best Star Wars costumes we spotted.

Lounge Lords:
There’s something rather satisfying about seeing two of the biddest baddies in Star Wars dressed up in their leisure wear, ready for a cocktail and a good time. These two characters roamed Comic-Con with a certain swagger that only Darth Vader and Boba Fett could pull off. Bravo, gentlemen. Bravo!

Fan in Carbonite:
Wearing full stormtrooper armor is constraining. Slave Leia costumes are drafty. But this Fan in Carbonite costume wins for most likely the hardest Star Wars costume ever to navigate through swarms of Comic-Con goers. Color us impressed.

Send in the Clones:
Thanks to The Clone Wars TV show, clone troopers are more populare than ever! The 501st Legion dominated as usual as members dressed as clone troopers and stormtroopers hung out at the Star Wars Pavilion this year and wandered the floor always ready for a photo op. There’s really no way to outdo the 501st when it comes to their impressive body armor and always-in-character demeanor. Nothing beats seeing a kid’s eyes light up when he sees a trooper walking towards him. It just wouldn’t be a proper Comic-Con experience without them. Death Troopers:
Zombies make everything better…even Star Wars. To promote the new Del Rey horror novel Death Troopers, these members of the 501st get a bit bloody to show off their more macabre side of the Imperial army.

Little Girl Trooper:
Why should the adults have all the fun? This young girl showed us all that indeed size matters not. She stayed in character even when I snapped her photo. If I ever need backup in a fight against some pesky battle droids, I’m calling on her!

Tusken Raider:
Granted, Tusken Raiders don’t say much, but they sure enjoy a quality iced tea.

Slave Leias:
Just as iconic as stormtroopers, the Slave Leias make Comic-Con one of the best places to get the ultimate fanboy and fangirl photo op. Every year, the lovely ladies gather for a group shot that brings the entire Star Wars Pavillion to a jaw-to-the-floor standstill. Rebel and Sith Cheerleaders:
2, 4, 6, 8! Who do we appreciate? Rebel and Sith Cheerleaders! As always, both the Rebels and Sith have their own cheerleaders to root for Jedi and Vader alike. That way, either side you choose has plenty of spirit! Ready? Oooookay!
