When Star Wars artist Spencer Brinkerhoff III featured this awesome Star Wars mashup of Domo Kun and his friends, we couldn’t help but wonder why he was inpsired to make Domo-bacca.
Who is Domo Kun, for those fans who might not know?
Domo Kun is the mascot of Japan’s NHK television station, appearing in several 30 second stop-motion sketches shown as station identification during shows. “DOMO” means thank you in Japanese and the suffix “KUN” is used for addressing young men (like Mr. Miyagi used to called his student Daniel San, this is like Daniel Kun).
Can you name all the characters in the shot so fans know who is who?
From left to right:
FOX BOY as Luke Skywalker – the second-oldest brother of the Fox trio and often hangs out with Domo and Bear Boy. He is rather quiet and prefers reading to playing baseball.
MR. USAJI as Obi-Wan Kenobi – a retired old rabbit who loves strong green tea and good humor. He is Domo’s mentor.
DOMO as Chewbacca – has a stout body but his heart is pure.
BEAR BOY as Han Solo – a neighbor and friend of Domo.
TASHANNA as Princess Leia – a young weasel-girl who dreams of being a stylist or model in Tokyo.
Why did you decide to make a Domo/Star Wars character mashup?
I saw an add on Facebook for a Halloween contest to make a costume for Domo and I was talking with my friend and fellow artist Jessica Hickman about how great Domo would look as Chewie.
Which one out of that group is your favorite as a Star Wars character?
Oh, it’s so hard to pick a favorite! Domo works perfectly with the simple addition of the bandolier. When it isn’t Halloween Domo like to cruise around in his Wookiee T-shirt. But I think that as Obi-Wan is probably my favorite. He really is a wise old rabbit isn’t he?
